You know summertime in Toronto has hit full-force when Pride rolls around! 2019 is the 50th anniversary of The Stonewall Inn riots (NYC) – considered the birth of modern LGBTQ2+ Pride Movement. Interestingly enough, Toronto Pride didn’t come to be, until over 10 years later when the Metropolitan Toronto Police arrested more than 300 men in the Toronto Bathhouse Raids, aka, Operation Soap. The largest mass arrest in Canadian history until Edmonton freaked out over the Stanley Cup in 2006. The record was broken again in 2010 in Toronto during the G-20. The Operation Soap arrests resulted in massive protests and demonstrations that over-time evolved into the Pride Parade ?️‍? we know today. Take pride in yourself and be grateful for your freedoms. Remember, someone fought hard for the rights we have now – and we need to all keep fighting for the rights and freedoms we deserve as human beings
